“Hello, we are Jana M. and Rodrigo D. The Founding Head Boy and Head Girl here at Queen’s Qatar. Applying to become Head Boy and Head Girl was a challenging but rewarding experience that allowed us to grow in confidence and understand what leadership really means.”
“The process began with a written application and personal statement, where we explained why we would be a good fit for the role; the qualities we could bring and what we hoped to achieve. After being shortlisted, we moved on to the interview stage, where we discussed our ideas and how we would handle the responsibilities of the position. We then had to deliver two speeches, giving us the chance to speak directly to the students we hoped to represent and form voting campaigns, sharing our ideas with the school before both students and teachers cast their votes. Each stage challenged us differently and made being selected even more meaningful.”
“We chose to take on this responsibility because we wanted to have a positive and lasting impact on our school community. To us, being Head Boy and Head Girl is much more than a title. It means being approachable, listening to students across all year groups and making sure their ideas and concerns are genuinely represented. We also hope to introduce new initiatives and opportunities that make school life more enjoyable and bring students together.”
“We admire leaders such as Malala Yousafzai and Nelson Mandela because of their courage, resilience and ability to use their voices to create meaningful and lasting change. They demonstrate that good leadership is not about having the most authority or being the loudest person in the room; it is about listening, communicating and inspiring others.”
“By the end of our year as founding Head Boy and Head Girl, we hope our legacy is a school where students feel heard, included and confident enough to share their ideas. We want to create initiatives that continue beyond our time in the role and encourage future student leaders to keep improving the school.”
“Ultimately, we hope to be remembered not simply for being Head Boy and Head Girl, but for what we achieved with the opportunity we were given.”
At Queen’s Qatar, we believe that student leadership plays an important role in building a strong, inclusive and ambitious school community. Jana and Rodrigo’s appointment as our Founding Head Boy and Head Girl marks an important milestone in the school’s journey, and we look forward to seeing the positive contribution they will make as they represent the student body and help shape the future of Queen’s Qatar.
“I am delighted to appoint our new Head Boy and Head Girl following a rigorous selection process that reflected the calibre, commitment and leadership potential of our students. They have demonstrated not only strong leadership qualities, but also a genuine desire to serve and make a positive difference to our school community. I am excited to see what they will bring to Queen’s Qatar and the impact they will have in inspiring and supporting their fellow students.”
