At Queen’s Qatar, we know how important the early years are in shaping a child’s confidence, curiosity and love of learning. Our Early Years provision offers a warm, caring and stimulating environment where children feel happy, supported and encouraged to explore, discover and grow from the very beginning of their school journey.

Where Learning Begins

Early Years Foundation Stage: Ages 3 – 5 years

From the very beginning, children are immersed in a world of play, discovery and learning. Our Early Years provision provides a safe, engaging and inspiring environment designed to support the developmental needs of children aged 3 to 5. Based within a dedicated area of our campus, our Early Years classrooms encourage creativity, independence and curiosity, helping every child build confidence and develop a genuine love of learning.

Our Foundation Stage follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework for England, providing a strong and well-rounded start to each child’s education. Learning is centred around seven key areas of development: Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.

Through a carefully balanced approach that combines purposeful play with structured learning, children are encouraged to explore, communicate, create and develop greater independence. Our aim is to build strong foundations for future learning while nurturing confidence, curiosity and a genuine love of learning within the supportive environment of Queen’s Qatar.

Phonics

As our young learners begin to read and write, teachers follow the synthetic phonics programme, Read Write Inc, which starts in Early Years and continues until the end of Reception.

Mathematics

Our White Rose Maths curriculum allows for children to engage with real-world maths while practising their fluency.

Arabic and Islamic Studies

Children in Foundation Stage will have access to specialist teachers for Arabic and Islamic Studies.

Physical Education

During PE lessons, Foundation Stage students are provided with opportunities for play both indoors and outdoors. Specialist teachers support them in building core strength, stability, balance, spatial awareness and agility.

Partner Nurseries

At Queen’s, we are committed to building strong community links and fostering meaningful partnerships with high-quality early years providers. Our Partner Nurseries are carefully selected pre-school nurseries that share our dedication to providing children with the best possible foundation for their educational journey.

Children applying from our partner nurseries will receive priority consideration in our admissions process. Additionally, to ensure a smooth and familiar transition, assessments will be conducted within their nursery environment—provided their application is submitted before the scheduled assessment date. Assessments will usually take place in the partner nurseries in January/February for the following academic year.

This initiative reflects our belief in the importance of continuity in a child’s early education, supporting their development in a setting where they feel comfortable and confident. By working closely with our partner nurseries, we aim to create a seamless pathway from early years to primary education, ensuring every child is well-prepared for success at Queen’s Qatar.
